Today the senate, gov, Lieutenant Governor and commissioners are all out at Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort for a summit to the importance of effective and efficient government – Today and tomorrow they will all be holding sessions to review all the issues of government in the Virgin Islands and work on a common plan to move forward.

UVI has Good News – 1.5 million new dollars to help 200 High School seniors attend the university.  UVI won and Department of Education College Access Challenge Grant means more High School students can attend college. The money is ONLY for Tuition, but it makes the difference when a student comes from a financially challenged family. Scholarships mean students getting education. And Since 2008, these grant funds have ALL been used – nothing goes back to Washington. Applications will be available in January.

New bills from WAPA – the latest round of electric and water bills from WAPA will reflect the new Levelized Energy Adjustment Clause. The new rates became effective December 1 but WAPA had already sent our 13,000 bills using the old rates. Revised bills are in the mail with the new rates. Look at your WAPA bill – the correct LEAC rate is .239096. Here comes the list of places that will get new WAPA bills: Bournfield, Lindberg Bay, Kirwan Terrace, Contant, Nisky and Subbase, Krum Bay, Crown Bay, Veterans drive, John Dunkoe, Altona and Welgunst, Honduras, Demarara, Gaswerks, Kronprindsens gade, Griffin Park, Sprat Bay, Western Cemetery area, Careening Hole, Waterfront, Water Island and Hassel Island, Anna’s fancy, Solberg, Hodge Street, Temple Street, Brand Street, Haabets Gade, Nye Norsidevey,  Uk-le Gade, Princess Gade, Storagade, Regierrings gade and Kanal gade.  On St. Croix Sunny Isle, Peter’s rest, Castle Coakley, Diamond and Strawberry, Barren Spot, Mary’s Fancy, La Reine, Clifton Hill and Profit and all large water meters island wide on St. Croix

FEMA says it will support disaster assistance for the Government and not-for-profit organizations. but not individuals or businesses. The torrential rain falls of November 8 to 12 associated with Hurricane Tomas hit St. Croix hard and flash floods damaged roadways and buildings.  President Barack Obama declared a disaster area opening the way for FEMA to inspect the damage. The damage to government buildings will be repaired with part federal funds, but FEMA found that very few families were displaced from their homes by flooding which is their trigger to give aid to individuals.   

Here comes Dept. of Tourism on TV. Part of the new local tourism awareness campaign, Tourism is launching five new television spots designed to raise the level of customer service in the Territory and promote the customer service pledge.  Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson-Doty says Until now our tourism awareness message has been promoted locally in print, radio and online, so we are very excited to broaden our audience even further by adding television to our media mix.” Each spot features a mocko jumbie character who intervenes when poor service is being delivered and “inspires” the service provider to take the customer service pledge. In the spots, taking the pledge results in the delivery of superior customer service, produces satisfied customers and fills the service provider with pride. Watch for the Mocko Jumbie on TV.


 Innovative Communication Corp. has a planned outage of the cable television on Tuesday December 7 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM due to construction at the Home depot site.

The Department of Human Services advises the public effective today, the parking lot adjacent to the Lionel Roberts stadium will be locked at 6pm daily to ensure public safety.   The lot will be opened 7am Monday through Friday except holidays to accommodate patrons and business owners in the Hospital Ground area.

Havensight Mall will host the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree this evening 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM with the official lighting of the tree at 6:00 PM. The first 1,000 children can get a gift from Santa.  Entertainment is by Cool Sessions, Sweet-a Band, Milo’s Kings, Bertha C. Boschulte School steel band and the carolers and quadrille dancers.  The event is sponsored by West Indian Company Limited And the Havensight Mall merchants.  

Big Thank You to the Junior Fire Fighters  Youth Program who performed a beach clean up on Lindberg Beach and John Brewer’s Beach over this past weekend.  The Junior Fire Fighters  program goals are to develop civic pride and the beach project was all about keeping our public beaches clean and attractive.  Big Thank You to the Junior Fire Fighters.
