Good News from Bluebeard’s Castle. Where 13 million dollars in renovations means the facilities reopened with a real flair for excellence. Updated amenities, more open space, and upgrades to facilities throughout the property. The lobby has been completely redesigned in tropical elegance. Also new is a Conference Room for business meetings. Bluebeard’s Castle. Dates from 1665 and was first used as a  hotel in 1934.

Delegate Dr. Donna Christensen says the budget showdown in Washington produced a new budget with a lot of cuts – some of which will affect the Virgin Islands.  We had nearly a million dollars in the pipeline for wastewater treatment that we had not spent.  Cut.  Gone. Money that was NOT spent was a target.  Law Enforcement was cut. NOAA was  cut.  So was Legal services,  Corp of Engineers, Energy efficiency, FEMA, Environmental Protection Agency, Drinking water grants, and Land conservation funds – All cut.  Community Development Block Grant suffered cut too. The delegate says these cuts will impact the Virgin Islands. Any good news here? Delegate Christensen says they WERE able to restore funding for WIC, FEMA’s disaster relief, Head Start and Women’s and Children’s health programs and they held the line so Pell grants for college will remain at $5,500.
