Carnival Village is getting set up and the dumping ground for old carnival village booths and trailers is getting cleaned up too.  Where are the carnival village buildings during the off-season. Move it or it will be towed to Bovoni at the owner’s expense. With the new Foothills Professional building nearing completion behind the hospital the doctors who will have offices there do not want an unsightly mess in the front yard.

Meanwhile in Fort Christian Parking Lot the Carnival village is taking shape as booths are already set up, new ones are under construction and the Children’s village carnival rides are poised to be set up. The Parking Lot will reopen on May 16 – in between cars may park on the waterfront apron.

The Port Authority has drafted, but not yet adopted, a new proposal to handle the process of relocating tenants from the aging Bournefield housing complex. The proposal allows for a gradual five-year transition period in which residents will be phased out by attrition rather than forced eviction, .  The plans also reveal that the Port Authority wants to use the land for a car rental and public parking garage facility, and for the expansion of cargo handling facilities. It sets an end date of Oct. 1, 2016 for the move-out of all tenants. New five-year lease agreements that begin Oct. 1, 2011 and expire Sept. 30, 2016, with no option for renewal. Any unit that becomes vacant will not be re-leased to a new tenant. No successor rights will be granted to anyone else. The Port Authority board has not yet adopted this plan.
