Unit 23 - the 42 megawatt generator that is the workhorse of WAPA - went down in the early morning and all the rest of the generators tripped off to avoid being damaged by the huge load.  So no one had electricity. All day yesterday, WAPA worked to restore power. By 2:00 PM they had power back on most feeders, by 6:00 PM  unit 23 was back in action and every is back to normal. What caused it? An oil leak that made Unit 23 stop.

No. Adelbert Bryan, a member of the Joint Board of Elections from St. Croix, refused to give a report on election reform developed by the committee he chairs because he hasn’t been reimbursed his travel expenses for attending committee meetings held prior to the board’s first formal meeting. Ther board was meeting Wednesday at the Battery on St. John. And aftert three and a half hours, still no report on election reform. Wilma Marsh Monsanto said she was frustrated. She said “When we were running for office, every one of us indicated we wanted election reform." Here comes the Health Department's "Fight the Bite" campaign, aimed at educating residents about how to prevent against dengue as the hurricane and rainy seasons draw closer. The idea is to teach residents various precautionary measures, reminding them that "prevention is best," since there is no cure for the disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. Tips for the home include:
• replacing or repairing damaged screens;
• protecting infants by covering cribs with cotton mosquito netting;
• keeping tires in a dry place or punching holes in them so that water leaks out;
• putting plants currently in water into soil, and emptying flowerpot bases weekly;
• keeping barrels where water is collected tightly sealed;
• covering or turning over children's toys or buckets that could hold water upside down; and
• placing a screen or mesh over the cistern overflow pipe.
