HOVENSA announced they are dropping the prices of gasoline at the rack on St Croix - this is the wholesale prices. Regular is down 12 and premium is down 16 cents. It will take a awhile for this price to be reflected at the gas pump.


Police Commissioner Novelle Francis announced the increase in fees for services provided by the Police Department as of June first- that's today.  The cost of police reports, traffic records, fingerprinting, firearms permits and other permits like security licenses are all going up. Oh and the Police Department reminds everyone - you can't use the Police Department name or logo in ads without their permission. Someone used their name at a lingerie fashion show to imply the Police Department was providing security. You can't use their name without their permission.

Hurricane season begins on TODAY,  and VITEMA has an All Hazards Expo on. Thursday on St Croix and Friday on St. Thomas This year the theme is "Empowering the Community." The All Hazards Expo on St Croix is at Sunny Isle Shopping Center on Thursday . And on St. Thomas it will be at Tutu Park Mall on Friday - Both expos are from 4:00 PM in the afternoon to 9 o'clock in the evening. Since it is the beginning of Hurricane season, Boaters are reminded that Division of Fish and Wildlife's has a lottery drawing for the 16 free storm mooring spots in Benner Bay this Saturday morning at Fish and Wildlife in Red hook. These moorings are part of a larger project to install 112 moorings in the East End. If you have a yacht that qualifies, you can get more information at the Department of Fish and Wildlife. call 775-6762

This week is also the beginning of the closed season for Queen Conch.  Beginning today, June 1 to November 1 it is illegal to take Queen Conch. Department of Planning and Natural Resources  asks everyone's cooperation.

With tremendous sadness we report the passing of Derek Hodge, former senator, former Lieutenant Governor who succumbed to a long fight with cancer.  Hodge is remembered for his election as a freshman senator in 1984, and then elected president of the 16th Legislature, a feat not easily matched. Hodge went right from his two-year Senate term to being elected lieutenant governor under Alexander Farrelly.  Hodge was instrumental in securing the federal funds for Henry E Rholsen Airport. And his lifelong devotion to the Democratic Party.

Social Security representatives will be on St John on Wednesday June 1 at the Cruz Bay St John Department of Human Services near the fire station from 9:00 AM to 12:45 PM to answer social security questions.

St. Thomas-St. John Superintendent of Schools Ms. Jeanette Smith-Barry advises parents of eight (8th) grade students attending the Julius E. Sprauve School of a special meeting to be held on today  at 9:30 a.m.  Parents are urged to attend this important meeting.

UVI St Croix has a special new camp this summer for students in grades 7 to 10 who want to learn about robotics.  They will build robots and program computers to operate the robots.  The cam is June 20 to July 1 - it is free and the deadline to sign up is coming up on Monday June 6 - For More Information call Velma Tyson at 778-1620.

Do you have a child who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall.  Will you please come to the Kindergarten readiness program on Thursday June 2 at 5:30 PM at Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort.  Parents will acquire information regarding the development of their child's social, cognitive, emotional and physical development.  They will also learn ways to help their children develop language, literacy and numeracy skills. Which are essential to school success.

In addition there is a chance for parents to see inside the K. In St. Thomas-St. John School District there is a Kindergarten Academy on Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at all elementary schools in the district.   Parents should take their new kindergarten student to his or her assigned school to engage in activities that would be experienced during a regular school day.
