Former Sen. Alvin Williams pleaded guilty in court on Thursday. In exchange for dropping eight counts against him; Williams pleaded guilty to one. By pleading to the racketeering charge, Williams acknowledged guilt to all the charges. He admitted to racketeering. he confessed. Instead of facing 80 years in prison the deal leaves Williams facing no more than a 20 years and a fine. The court will take his confession into consideration and hold sentencing on April 25th, 2013.
What's this about jobs at the United States Virgin Islands Hospital in St. Thomas? A website offering jobs? the Department of licensing and consumer affairs is warning the public about a site on the web that claims to have jobs in St. Thomas at the Virgin Islands Hospital - - at the corner of Smith Bay and Shirley Street - - - even with details of an address that doesn't exist. We all know there's only one hospital in St. Thomas - - Schneider Hospital. So who is this Virgin Islands Hospital? A scam. They promise a job, you send fees, they keep your money. http://www.unitedstatesvirginislandshospital.com/ is a phony and the web site has been taken down.
Today could be the last day for repaving in Christiansted– This is the final stage of the undergrounding of water and electrical conduits in the downtown area. Paving should be complete late today. WM UVI has a road mess as The next generation conduits are installed under the roads west of UVI. Traffic is limited to one lane Obey the flaggers.
Sad news on this first anniversary of the closure of HOVENSA. Some of the last of the people who did the work to close it down are themselves losing their jobs. The last stage of the transition from refinery to storage facility is over.
The University has good news about the Boston University Early Medical School Selection Program. At a presentation yesterday on St. Thomas Dr. Samantha Kaplan from Boston University explained that the joint program had produced 25 physicians in the 20 years it has existed. That's a tremendous outcome plans are in the works to expand the program as they encourage more high school students interested in science to come to UVI as a pathway to the Boston University medical school. Five UVI students are in the program right now with more coming.

UVI's Etelman Observatory has an Open House this evening from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. Guests will be treated to views of the planet Jupiter, with its Galilean moons, and the Orion Nebula region. Arts Alive is announcing that David Bromberg will not be able to appear at Tillett Gardens on this evening HOWEVER, the David Bromberg Trio! will appear, joined by Jonathan Edwards. Tickets are $35.00 Doors open at 6:00 and the concert begins at 8:00 PM.
The retired police officer organization reminds all retired police and law enforcement officers of their next general meeting Saturday 10 AM at the David Canton headquarters on veterans drive.
Remember Monday is a federal holiday. It is the reverend Dr Martin Luther King holiday. ICC says their offices will be closed on Monday. Schools are closed, The University is closed. Banks courts and government offices will be closed on Monday in honor of Dr. King's birthday.

The Virgin Islands Continuum of Care will conduct a Point in Time Count and Survey of the homeless population on all islands on Saturday, January 26th. They need volunteers. On St Croix call Catholic Charities at 773-0132.

The Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas will honor Dr. Martin Luther King with a celebratory Service this evening at 6:30PM. The Congregation will honor seven students, one from each High School, and present each with an Award of Recognition. The public is invited to the service and a reception at Lilienfeld House after the service. The seven students are:
