Weather in the World : Terrible snow storm blanketed the North east over the last 24 hours followed by bitter cold tempreatures. 20 degrees in Lewes Delaware  with snow. 3 degrees in Boston with Snow.  NYC has 13 degrees and snow. Upstate NY at Fayetteville – minus 6 degrees.  Same minus 6 in Toronto and minus 9 in Montreal.

Happy New Year – Third Day We have a calypso monarch in Crucian Christmas Carnival.  Last nights Calypso competition ran until 2 AM before a monarch was selected.  Cedric Brookes, singing as “King Spade” retained his Calypso monarch title singing about the plight of the Juan Luis Hospital.  The first runner-up was Samuel “Mighty Pat” Ferdinand, and the second runner-up was to Temisha “Caribbean Queen” Libert.  Campbell “King Kan” Barnes was most humorous and Mighty Pat and King Spade shared the title for best social commentary.  King Spade won top honors for best political commentary.  Also Yesterday, the food fair produced acres of tasty delights.  Hearty Congratulations to Gloria Joseph for whom the Food Fair was named.  She thanked Eliza Williams who raised her, Annie DeChabert who taught her how to bake a cake and Dorothy Hicks who taught Home economics at Christiansted High School.

Delegate Dr. Donna Christensen and Miss St. Croix 2014 Astia LeBron presented Joseph with an elaborate lace-bordered traditional madras hair wrap. The delegate to Congress gave her a congressional resolution in her honor, and other dignitaries presented her with a mahogany corner shelf, bracelets and other jewelry from Crucian Gold and Nav Jewelers, and a Crucian Carnival poster.
All the politicians were on hand to shake hands and offer kind words. You can tell who is running for office…

Cruzan Christmas Carnival continues. Today at 10am the children’s parade gets going.

St. Croix Police Chief James Parris has announced the Parking and Road restrictions for the Children’s Parade, on January 3 and the Adult’s Parade on January 4 at 10 a.m in Frederiksted. For the Children’s Parade – January 3 PARKING IS PROHIBITED 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fisher Street and King Street in Frederiksted beginning at the Post Office to the Carnival Village.cvAny vehicle found parked within the restricted area between the hours stated herein will be cited and towed at the owner’s expense.

The adult parade Sat January 4 at 10:00 AM on Sunday January 5 there is the Talent competition at the Palms at Pelican Cove and Carnival Fireworks late on January 5th

Let us clarify the scheduled for this week and next. Governor John DeJongh signed a proclamation issuing administrative leave to government employees
Today the Governor has issues Administrative leave 8 am – 5 pm- - territory-wide.  Saturday is the day for the adult parade, and Sunday is fireworks in Frederiksted in the evening.  Monday January 6, is a  Legal Holiday and then – back to work.

Registration for 2014 Spring semester day and evening classes at the Raphael O. Wheatley Skill Center will begin Tuesday, January 7, 2014. They have Cosmetology, Computer Applications, Carpentry and Auto body-Mechanic Repair. And the Computer Applications and Cosmetology classes are in the evening too. Tuition is $250.00 per semester plus Textbooks and supplies. The registration fee which includes ID, insurance and a school patch – just $35.00.  Contact the Wheatley Skill Center programs,  774-6277.
