The national weather forecast calls for Numerous showers will affect the Virgin Islands under a east wind of 15 to 20 mph. Rainfall accumulations will average between a tenth to a quarter of an inch with localized amounts up to an inch possible with the heavier showers.

Government House says it has updated the Virgin Islands territorial Emergency Operations plan.  It has not been updated since 1997 and September 11, 2001 and a whole raft of threats have emerged since the last update to the emergency plan.  Governor John DeJongh says – for the first time in a long time all of our emergency responders have a playbook they can refer to in managing emergencies. This new document brings the Virgin Islands on a par with the states and territories who have also updated their playbooks.

Paradise Jam was all excitement over the weekend.  The Xavier College men’s team dominated the first and second round. While Old Dominion went back and forth against St. Peters and finally Old Dominion held on at the end for a 7 point win  and to earn a place in the championship game. That championship game is tonight between Xavier and Old Dominion.  Meanwhile the Seton Hall Pirates will face Clemson University for second place. UVI Bucss faced Pontifical Catholic University. In front of a sizeable hometown crowd, UVI found itself down 30-28 at halftime. But in the second half the Bucs, along with their fans, picked up the intensity. UVI Bucs won their game on Saturday night as they bested Pontifical Catholic University 70 to 54

Just in time for Thanksgiving Day – the Virgin Islands Lottery has a new lottery ticket – this time with fruit, veggies herbs and honey on the lottery tickets. Some of the holiday foods are grown right here in the Virgin Islands.

Legislature is meeting at St. Thomas today – they have two nominees to the Port Authority Governing Board – Gordon Finch and Cassan Pancham.  They have a bill to rename Long Bay Road for Elmo Roebuck and honors for Reverent Algernon Diego Blyden and for the St. Thomas Reform Church for 350 years of service.  They have a set of Coastal Zone Management Commission permits on the agenda and two leases. Also a decision on sale of government property on Company Street in Christiansted a road repair bill and a set of amendments to the property tax law.

What is the PTA all about – the conference this weekend focused on how the PTA supports a school.  _ everyone has a stake in the future of our children and everyone should support the schools. Business has a stake, a well educated school population means well educated people in the labor pool. Top of the agenda is creating two way communication between the schools and the community.


Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority  is closed today and will reopen on Tuesday.

Taxi Cab commission reminds taxi operators that operate as dollar ride that they are not allowed to impede traffic as the load and unload passengers.  Such taxi operators must pull off the road , use a turn out or ride on the sidewalk to keep the traffic lanes free flowing while taking on passengers or discharging them. – And they are reminded that VITRAN busses have priority in the use of bus stops.  

The V.I. Police Department is launching its annual drive to crack down on people who have a little too much holiday spirit and take to the road impaired by alcohol or drugs. The campaign, entitled "Over the Limit, Under Arrest," was announced yesterday on St. Croix by Police Commissioner Novelle Francis Jr. Between Dec. 16  and Jan. 2, police will be on the road in force, holding traffic checkpoints, and waging an aggressive, high-profile campaign to encourage people who have been drinking or using any kind of drug to avoid getting behind the wheel. People who drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs aren't just taking their own lives in their hands, they are also endangering the lives of every other person on the road.

The littlest angler reeled in the biggest fish at the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club’s annual Wahoo Wind-Up tournament on Sunday. Nine-year-old Nathan Gatcliffe caught a 36.37-pound wahoo aboard the 36-foot boat  Double Header IV, to earn Top Angler and $1000 cash prize. Gatcliffe’s fellow angler, Aaron Batten, reeled in an identical weight or 36.37-pound wahoo but length served as the tie-breaker, with Batten’s fish measuring only 53.10 inches, to land him Second Top Angler and a $500 cash prize. Alas - no one caught the 75 pounder that would have won the $10,000 prize. A total of 17 wahoo came to the scales collectively weighing 326.9 pounds.
