Good News from Innovative Communication Corp. as they pay the bill to support the free SAT  prep class for Virgin Islands High School students.  UVI's Center for Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning will offer the SAT prep course which in the past has helped more than 300 public high school students  They are now taking applications for a seventh year of the free SAT prep class. 9th and 10th –are entering a more competitive college entrance environment and success on this test is more important than ever. Learning the basics of how to take the test, when to guess, how to scope out the problems, all gives students an advantage. For an application, students can see their guidance counselors, call UVI-CELL at 693-1106 or download an application from http://cell.uvi.edu.

Good News from Department of Education as Dr LaVerne Terry announced the appointment of Dayna Clindinen to the post of Director of Human Resources for the Department of Education.  Clendinen has 10 years of experience in Communication, Human Resources and Leadership. She was deputy commissioner of Administration at Department of Public Works and had Human Resources under her direction at that Government agency.

V.I. Health Department officials are warning the public about recalls on five million units of Johnson & Johnson Co's. children's medication, including Children's Benadryl Allergy Fastmelt Tablets, Junior Strength Motrin Caplets and Extra Strength Rolaids Softchews. McNeil Laboratories division, is pulling the cherry and grape flavors of the Benadryl tablets distributed in the U.S. Belize, Barbados, Canada, Puerto Rico, St. Martin and St. Thomas.  The Food and Drug Administration found "numerous problems" with McNeil’s operation in Puerto Rico prompting the recall.

Here comes price changes at Schneider Hospital.  The results of a price assessment from Deloitte Consulting will take effect on Wednesday – some 3,264 different items have prices at Schneider Hospital and 47% are going to  increase 24% will decrease in price.  Some 42% of the hospital’s prices have not changed in 5 years. Cost of massage therapy is going up 157% but the cost of swine flu vaccine will drop 96%.  Lab test for Pap smear will drop from 124 to 105.  Lab rates in general are down and a decision was made not to change any prices in the emergency department. No change to the cost of emergency services. .

UVI’s semester comes to a close on Saturday of this week, just in time to register for the spring semester Online registration for the spring semester using the University's BanWeb system is available to returning UVI students now through Jan. 3, 2011. To register, students must confer with advisors to have courses approved and to receive login PINs. Tuition and fees for returning students may be paid – in person, by mail, by credit card or online – through Jan. 4, 2011. Registration for new students is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2011.
CAHS 12th graders have your PTSA meeting tonight, at 5:30 PM at Ruth E. Thomas Auditorium.  The topic is. the topic is financial aid – bring your tax return, two recent WAPA Bills and a phone bill –  12th graders at CAHS -  - 11th grade PTSA is December 7, but if you missed the 12th grade’s Introduction night, you can catch the rerun on Friday December 3 at 6:00 PM at Ruth E. Good News Maker of the Day is Dr Doug Larche of the UVI Theater program.  He is donating 30 newly made pairs of girls and women’s shorts, 20 pairs of tennis shoes, and men’s khaki pants and matching khaki work shirts to the UVI St. Lucia Hurricane Relief Effort. The clothing was used is UVI Theatre’s production of “South Pacific.” Larche said “On behalf of our cast and crew, it is our distinct pleasure to pass these on to our Caribbean friends and neighbors.  The clothing was all new, worn only for the production, and laundered before being donated. Dr Larche – you’re making good news.
