UVI President David Hall gave his first address to the Board of Trustees.  He started with the topic of money. It seems that several hundred students have been going to college without paying their fees.  Hall sent a personal letter, pay or you will be purged from the system.  some 60 students paid up.  130 were purged and many rushed to pay and be reinstated. Hall is working to build the partnership between the University and the public school system.  he said too many students arrive at the University unprepared for academic college work and the local school system needs to work with the university to raise the qualifications of the teaching professionals. The changes are just getting going according to Hall.  The Board approved disbanding the Ad Hoc Hotel committee and decided to put that project on hold.  The Board approved plans to post all their actions on the University’s web site and they got a briefing on the status of the students body. 2,602 students are enrolled in the university right now with 225 additional students in the fall semester a 10% increase

Finally this – the Virgin Islands leads the nation – a recent research study shows that the Virgin Islands and the other territories lead the nation. In Sleep.  Researchers at the Centers For Disease Control conducted a phone poll, they called households in all 56 of the US Jurisdictions asking how well rested you are.  They asked all kinds of questions regarding sleep and you know what.  The Virgin Islands and other territories have more people who say they get a good nights sleep than all the states. West Virginia gets the least sleep and has the most grumpy people.  And living in the US Virgin Islands gets you a better nights sleep than living in any of the states.
